CODE Member Blueprint
Every building needs a blueprint to identify thevarious elements that have been incorporated into the structure. As home owners expand their house , they look at their current blueprint to exam the areas that are in need of improvement. New layers are added to the blueprint, but the original foundationis still there. In the same way, as an educator, I need to examine my currentpractices and knowledge base to determinewhat I want to do and how I plan to get there.
CODE Expectations
Elevator Speech
Imagine you step on to an elevator and a colleague is there with you, asking what CODE is. What would you say?
My Big Campus
My Big Campus learning management system owned by Lightspeed Services. One of the expectations for MBCas a member of the CODE is to fully use this site for our classrooms and student learner groups. This year I will be co-teaching with English language teacher at Plaza Inernational Prep Academy. I also am loking forward to serving students in 5 other schools and collaborate with teachers at these schools as well.
Book Study
The group I gravitated toward when breaking into book study groups was focused on motivating learners. The 2 books our group plans to read are "Motivating Students: 25 Strategies to Light the Fire of Engagement" by Carolyn Chapman and Nicole Vagle and "Teaching the iGeneration". After reading the book, our group will post comments and reflectionson our GoogleDoc and plans to meet at the endof the first grading period to collaborate and discuss.
Online Presence
As members of the CODE it is necessary for us to have an onlinne presence. We would like to be able to share our work and ideas with one another as well as school and community. This Weebly page will serve as my online presence.
Educator Mentor
The final requirement of the CODE is to be a mentor to another educator.I have several people in mind. The most natural would be my ESL team, so we can plan and collaborate. Another option is my co-teacher at Plaza Park IPA, who is open to add new teaching techniques and technology elements to her classroom. I also work with my building and department administrators on a regular basis. This will help me keep them informed of what is happening in my classroom, encourage visits, and generate both formal and informal communication.
Finally, I will help lead other educators in a less formal mentoring capacity by being available during subject area summits and tech afternoons at school.
